Moffat Primed for 2018

Moffat Primed for 2018

James Moffat is primed for one of the busiest seasons of his career with confirmation today of the experienced racer’s 2018 schedule.

The 33 year old will spearhead David Wall’s 3 car Porsche Carrera Cup campaign, which begins next month on the streets of Adelaide.

That’s in addition to Moffat joining the powerful Tickford Racing squad for the 2018 Pirtek Endurance Cup – for the sport of Supercars’ 3 biggest events, the Sandown 500, Bathurst 1000 and Gold Coast 600.

“It’s a hectic schedule, but the best possible schedule for me to get back to winning races,” Moffat said. I’ve made the choice to step back from full time running in the Supercars to give myself the best possible chance to win Bathurst. The Carrera Cup campaign is the icing on top – to race a brand new Porsche again, that’s just the best!”

After winning last year’s championship, David Wall has expanded his team to 3 cars in 2018, with Moffat the star signing along with veteran Greg Taylor.

Moffat first cut his teeth in the category a decade ago, finishing third in the 2008 Carrera Cup title which kick started his Supercars career.

“It’s exciting to be joining a team that is not only competing for race wins but also the championship. It’s been 10 years since I last raced in the category, so I’m eager to get out there and experience the cars again and see what we can achieve on track throughout the year.”

The Porsche Wilson Security Carrera Cup championship will be held over eight events played for the most part as the key support class to the Supercars title. These include blue ribbon events at the Adelaide 500, the Australian Formula 1 Grand Prix, the Bathurst 1000, Gold Coast 600 and debuting at the brand new Tailem Bend circuit in South Australia.

Moffat is pinning his hopes on these races to have him primed for the Supercar enduros.

“After a couple of tough years it’s so nice to be so pumped to go racing again and be really confident that if everything goes well we can be contending to win races,” Moffat said. “I’m very thankful to my friends at Wilson Security, PAYCE, JBL and Swann Securities Systems who are making this all happen, I’m enormously appreciative.”

Moffat hits the track in his brand new Porsche with the opening round of the season at the Adelaide 500 on March 1.
