James Moffat has walked away unfulfilled, but confident his new team is on the right path after the Albert Park round of the Porsche Carrera Cup series.

As a support category to the opening Formula 1 Grand Prix of the season, Moffat finally came to terms with his new Porsche on his return to the championship – with a string of consistent results.
“On Thursday night we found an issue with a damper in the front of the car,” Moffat explained.
“When that was fixed the car came alive.”

“We didn’t get the overall results we wanted, but I’m so much more confident with the car and our speed has improved dramatically.”

Moffat raced 4 times across the weekend – with finishing positions of 5th, 4th, 8th and 6th – which leaves the 33 year old 6th in the standings after two rounds of the 8 event season.

The black mark for the team came in Saturday’s 10 lap race, where Moffat had contact with his teammate David Wall on lap 3.
Despite recovering to finish 8th – Moffat was relegated to 18th for his part in the accident.
“Obviously it was a less than ideal situation to get together with David,” Moffat conceded.
“Big apologies to the team – it’s the last thing any of us wanted, but thankfully Dave was really good about it.”
“We know we have to work together to get the best results – which rest assured will happen from now on.”

His drive from 18th on the grid to finish 6th in Sunday’s final race in front of a monster crowd was his highlight of the weekend.
“It felt good to finally be comfortable with the car and if it wasn’t for a safety car, I believe we could have even pushed for a podium,” Moffat said.
“The car looks fantastic with our new primary partner SONIQ on board, I’m slightly biased but I think we have the best looking Porsche out there.”
“It’s been a slower start to the season than I would have liked, but across the weekend I gained more confidence with the car and I believe much better results will come our way.”

That opportunity comes at the end of April with the third round of the Porsche Wilson Security Carrera Cup Australia Championship commencing on April 20 at Phillip Island.
